[DISCUSSION] Mantle zkEVM Research & Industry Collaboration

Adding an AI analysis here (that my group is working on) in case it is helpful.

This is a small part of the analysis:

Strengths:

Expertise: The Mantle Core Team possesses strong expertise in the development and maintenance of the Mantle protocol, which is crucial for the success of the proposal.

Innovation: Mantle is committed to bringing the most innovative and forward-looking technology to the market, which can give them a competitive advantage.

Community-driven: Being a community-owned and community-governed chain, Mantle invites the $BIT community and the broader web3 ecosystem to share their thoughts and provide feedback, fostering a collaborative approach.

Weaknesses:

Development Complexity: The proposal acknowledges that the development of zkEVM solutions involves some degree of complexity and uncertain timelines, which can pose challenges for Mantle in terms of implementation and meeting expected deadlines.

Limited Resources: Mantle may face limitations in terms of resources, specifically in terms of finances and personnel, which can impact the implementation and evolution of the protocol.

Opportunities:

Partnership Opportunities: The proposal highlights the opportunity of working with a partner on core zkEVM infrastructure, which can streamline the team’s focus on improving modularity and user experience. Collaborating with a technology partner can provide access to additional resources and expertise.

Market Demand: As the demand for privacy-focused and scalable smart contract execution grows, there is a significant opportunity for Mantle to capture a market segment with its zkEVM solution.

Threats:

Competition: There may be other projects or technologies in the market that offer similar or competing solutions to zkEVM. Mantle needs to remain competitive and address any potential threats from rival projects.

Regulatory Challenges: The proposal does not explicitly mention regulatory challenges. However, the evolving regulatory landscape around blockchain and crypto can pose potential threats to the adoption and implementation of zkEVM solutions. Compliance with regulations is essential for the long-term success of the proposal.

From technological pov zk rollups are the only reasonable solution, they are way better then optimistic rollups. If there wouldn’t be any government/regulator factor involved, zk rollups would dominate.

Nonetheless, at this point of time, there is one significant factor that can affect the direction of blockchain technology growth and its regulations. For example in EU ppl can’t trade each other a banana if its size and shape doesn’t match regulations… such deeply specified laws may touch crypto as well. Things like transaction execution, consensus, and data availability may be regulated soon.

Therefore i see future like this: If regulations wont be to much bloated, zk rollups will dominate and if regulations will make zk rollups to much expensive to maintain, ppl will use cheaper solutions (e.g. optimistic or other not yet introduced solutions).

tl;dr
Lets go with our own home-made zk EVM rollup and hope for the best.

This is a hot sector in crypto and its what’s give eth staying power. Dogether with Eth this should move well

I’d also like to suggest using Arbs orbit… layer 3 tech. Otherwise Polygon zkEVM would be nice.

Mantle should partner with Near Protocol to build ZKEVM

Mantle and Near sounds like a strong partner for zkroll ups
